Abstract
This research investigates the use of idioms and phrasal verbs in Algerian tertiary English as a Foreign Language (EFL) oral classrooms. Idioms and phrasal verbs, despite their importance for fluency and communicative competence, are challenging for learners due to their figurative meanings and diverse usage patterns. In Algerian EFL instruction, their integration is underexplored. The study uses a mixed-methods approach, including non-participant classroom observations, interviews to understand teachers\' perceptions, a quasi-experimental study with pre- and post-tests to assess student progress, and a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire to gauge student proficiency and perceptions. The hypothesis is that incorporating idioms and phrasal verbs in oral expression improves speaking skills. The experiment involved first-year license students of group six, who were trained to use idioms and phrasal verbs through various activities. Post-tests assessed their progress in EFL oral classrooms. Findings revealed that idioms and phrasal verbs significantly improved students\' speaking skills, suggesting a new teaching approach to enhance spoken proficiency in EFL oral classrooms.
